Thai Chess: A Digital Take on a Classic
Thai Chess, a game played on an 8x8 board, shares similarities with classical chess but features key differences in piece setup and movement. The game can be enjoyed against AI, a local opponent on the same device, or online against players worldwide.
Piece Setup: The board is identical to standard chess, however, the initial arrangement differs slightly. The white king is positioned on d1 and the white queen on e1 (a mirrored setup compared to Western chess). White pawns occupy the third rank, and black pawns the sixth.
Piece Movement:
- King: Moves one square in any direction (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). Castling is not permitted.
- Queen: Moves only one square diagonally.
- Rook: Moves any number of unoccupied squares horizontally or vertically.
- Bishop: Moves one square diagonally in any direction or one square forward vertically.
- Knight: Moves in an "L" shape (two squares in one direction – horizontally or vertically – then one square perpendicularly), as in standard chess.
- Pawn: Moves one square forward vertically and captures one square diagonally forward, mirroring standard chess rules. Pawns promote to a queen upon reaching the opponent's sixth rank.
Winning the Game: The objective, as in classical chess, is to checkmate the opponent's king. A stalemate results in a draw.
