11 Bit Studios Draws Parallels Between This War of Mine and The Alters

Polish developer 11 Bit Studios has released a new trailer for their upcoming sci-fi adventure, The Alters, highlighting its connection to their acclaimed wartime survival game, This War of Mine. The new trailer reflects on the studio's iconic past while showcasing The Alters' unique approach.

While This War of Mine is renowned for its grim and hopeless atmosphere, The Alters embraces a more vibrant, often humorous narrative, focusing on the struggles of alternate versions of protagonist Jan Dolski. Despite these contrasting tones, the developers highlight a strong thematic link between the two games.

Although vastly different in setting and tone, both games center on the core theme of survival. In This War of Mine, players grapple with the harsh realities of war in a besieged city, meticulously managing resources and facing daily challenges to keep their group alive. The Alters, conversely, presents survival as a frantic race against time, requiring players to constantly relocate their mobile base to escape a relentless, dust-inducing sun.

Both titles challenge players to step outside their comfort zones, venturing into hostile environments to scavenge for vital resources. However, a key distinction lies in the protagonists: This War of Mine guides players through the experiences of a group of random civilians, while The Alters features a unique team comprised of alternate versions of the main character.

The Alters is slated for release in 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass from launch day.
