Astro Bot Reaches Unbelievable Milestone

Astro Bot: A Platforming Champion Crowned with 104 Game of the Year Awards

Astro Bot has achieved a remarkable feat, surpassing all other platforming games to become the most awarded in history, boasting an impressive 104 Game of the Year wins. This surpasses the previous record holder, It Takes Two, by a significant 16 awards.

Initially released in September 2024, Astro Bot, a substantial expansion of the popular PS5 tech demo Astro's Playroom, quickly garnered critical acclaim and became the highest-rated new game of the year. Its success culminated in a Game of the Year win at The Game Awards 2024. However, the true extent of its accolades only recently came to light, thanks to a Twitter user and gamefa.com's Game of the Year Award Tracker.

While this achievement is monumental for a platformer, matching the award counts of industry giants like Baldur's Gate 3 (288 wins), Elden Ring (435 wins), and The Last of Us Part II (326 wins) remains improbable.

Despite this, Astro Bot's commercial success is undeniable. With over 1.5 million copies sold by November 2024, the game, developed by a team of fewer than 70 people over three years, has proven to be a significant win for both Team Asobi and Sony. Astro Bot has undeniably transitioned from a relatively unknown title to a major PlayStation franchise.
