Confront Wakasa or Otama in Assassin's Creed Shadows: What to Choose?

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 11,2025

In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, not every choice carries significant weight, but the decision to confront either Wakasa or Otama during the "The Tea Ceremony" mission will shape the rest of your campaign. Both characters present compelling reasons to be suspicious, yet there's a clear optimal choice that simplifies the quest significantly.

Post-tea ceremony in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, it's crucial to confront Wakasa, the true Golden Teppo of the Onryo. Identifying her correctly leads to the simplest resolution: her demise. Upon confronting Wakasa, she'll invite Naoe to her home for a private discussion. Once inside, the kasa (straw hat) from the prologue, worn by the Onryo, hanging on her wall, confirms your choice. After some dialogue, Naoe can swiftly end the mission by grabbing Wakasa's Teppo off the wall and shooting her at point-blank range.

What If You Confront Otama in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?

Opting to confront Otama after the tea ceremony still allows you to eventually kill Wakasa, but it complicates matters. Choosing Otama leads Naoe to pursue and eliminate her, only to discover a letter revealing Otama's corruption. However, this mistake gives Wakasa time to fortify herself in Osaka Castle with her soldiers.

To reach Wakasa, you must travel to Osaka Castle, either fighting through her soldiers or sneaking past them. If you've unlocked the Osaka Tenshu fast travel point, you can get close, but you'll still face some resistance. Even a stealth assassination attempt on Wakasa won't suffice; you'll need to engage in at least a one-on-one battle. While the boss fight isn't overly challenging, confronting Wakasa directly from the start avoids unnecessary complications and offers a more satisfying cinematic kill, especially considering her role in Naoe's father's death.
