Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time Caps Off Marvel's Bloodiest Trilogy

Author:Kristen Update:Mar 19,2025

2011's Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe lived up to its name, showcasing Wade Wilson's descent into madness and his subsequent massacre of Marvel heroes and villains. The popularity of this series led to a sequel, 2017's Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Again, by writer Cullen Bunn and artist Dalibor Talajić. Now, the duo returns for a final chapter: Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe One Last Time, where Deadpool's carnage expands beyond a single universe, engulfing the entire Marvel multiverse.

IGN recently interviewed Bunn, revealing details about this trilogy's conclusion. Below is an exclusive preview of the first issue, followed by insights into the fourth-wall-breaking mayhem to come.

Bunn, a prolific Deadpool creator with works like Deadpool: Killustrated and Night of the Living Deadpool, revealed he didn't initially plan a trilogy. His initial pitch after the first Deadpool Kills was a multiverse story, among others. He felt the multiverse concept was ideal for this particular story, and the timing is perfect.

Escalating the conflict presented a challenge. The solution? The multiverse. This time, Deadpool faces Cap-Wolves, Worldbreaker Hulks, and twisted versions of Marvel heroes and villains.

Bunn emphasizes the exploration of new avenues opened by the multiverse, showcasing different versions of Marvel characters, many familiar and some new. He describes the project as creating "the most epic Deadpool story of all time." He remains tight-lipped about specific matchups, only hinting at the inclusion of obscure characters unseen in over 30 years.

Talajić's artistic contributions are highlighted, with his style shifting to enhance the narrative. In Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe Again, he contrasted brutal violence with Deadpool's sanitized inner world. This approach continues in the finale, particularly in his portrayal of different worlds and character variants.

While presented as a trilogy, the first two books are standalone stories offering different motivations for Deadpool's actions. This third installment is also largely independent, though observant readers might find connections to the previous volumes. The focus is on a new, more sympathetic Deadpool.

Bunn describes this Deadpool as more sympathetic, posing the question: "What if Deadpool killed the Marvel Universe... and we were rooting for him to succeed?" This altered perspective sets this book apart from its predecessors.
