If you're aiming for the best ending in *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*, completing specific tasks is crucial, and saving Sam is one such pivotal task. Knowing where to find Sam during the main quest "Reckoning" is essential for those striving for perfection.

Rescuing Sam During "Reckoning"

As you approach the culmination of the main quest line, you'll discover that Sam is being held captive at Praguer's Camp, captured by Brabant. Your mission to rescue him during "Reckoning" presents you with multiple strategic options. You cannot simply stroll into the camp and liberate Sam; instead, you must decide whether to infiltrate stealthily or resort to violence.

To move around the camp without raising alarms, you'll need a guard's outfit. You have the choice to either take one by killing a guard and hiding the body, or you might find an outfit more conveniently by looting chests scattered throughout the camp. Once you've equipped the guard's attire, you can freely explore the camp in search of Sam.

Sam is located in a barn on the left side of the camp, beyond the open area with a cooking fire. Access the barn using the side ladder and drop down to confront Brabant inside. At this juncture, you face significant choices: you can either kill or spare Brabant. Opting to spare him contributes to achieving the best ending, though the final decision rests with you.

When to Rescue Sam

After freeing Sam, it's not yet time to escort him out of the camp. Sam will inform you about von Aulitz, who is also present in the camp. It's advisable to deal with von Aulitz first, then secure a horse, and finally return to Sam for his escape. Sam can wait safely while you complete these tasks in this order, as carrying him to the horse will be more manageable.

Von Aulitz can be found in the main section of the camp. With your guard outfit, the guards at his door will allow you entry without question. Upon finding von Aulitz, who is already dying, he requests a dignified death, which is the most honorable choice. Alternatively, you can choose to kill him mercilessly or leave him to die slowly. Notably, leaving him to die actually contributes to the best ending.

Once you've handled von Aulitz, your next steps are to retrieve Sam and find a horse. Sam will still be in the barn where you left him. If a guard questions your actions with Sam, simply explain that you're moving a body, which will dispel any suspicion. Proceed to the camp gates, exit, and take a right to circle around the camp's exterior.

As you follow the camp's perimeter, you'll reach the stables. Choose a horse and make your escape with Sam, bringing you one step closer to concluding the main quests of *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*.
