Don't Starve Together Mobile Release Confirmed, Excludes Netflix

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 03,2025

After a prolonged period of silence since our last coverage in June 2024, we have an update on Don't Starve Together. The bad news is that it will no longer be coming to Netflix Games. However, the good news is that fans of the survival game can still look forward to its release on mobile platforms. Don't Starve Together will be available on iOS and Android via Google Play and the iOS App Store, marking a global launch.

Developed by Klei Entertainment and published by Playdigious, Don't Starve Together continues to captivate players with its eerie, Tim Burton-inspired aesthetic. In this game, you find yourself stranded on a perilous island, teeming with hostile wildlife. Your mission is to survive as one of several quirky characters, gathering resources and, most importantly, ensuring you don't starve.

Although the game was initially set to be exclusive to Netflix Games, those plans have changed. While we don't have a specific release date yet, both Klei Entertainment and Playdigious have assured fans that an announcement regarding the launch is on the horizon.

No Netflix for you - The shift away from Netflix exclusivity raises questions about the platform's future commitment to indie games. Don't Starve is a significant title in the indie survival genre, and its departure from Netflix Games could signal broader changes. The loss of other indie exclusives, such as Shovel Knight Pocket Dungeon, adds to the concern about the future of indie titles on the service.

Netflix's indie game catalog has been a strong selling point, and the decision to move away from titles like Don't Starve Together might indicate a shift towards focusing on their own properties. For a deeper understanding of these dynamics, you can explore my thoughts on the launch of Squid Game: Unleashed and why I believe Netflix's increasing focus on its own IP could be detrimental to the indie games it has supported so far.
