Author:Kristen Update:Apr 07,2025

Elden Ring is set to make its way to the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025, a thrilling announcement that came during Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct. While it's not yet clear how this version will compare to those on other platforms, the reveal has sparked excitement for the upcoming Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition among Nintendo fans.

Since its launch in February 2022, Elden Ring has become a cultural phenomenon, selling over 13 million copies within the first month and reaching nearly 29 million sales to date. The game has seen players conquer its challenging bosses using unconventional methods like the Nintendo Switch Ring Fit controller and has inspired ambitious speedrunning challenges. The game's success continued with the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in 2023, and anticipation is building for the cooperative spin-off, Elden Ring: Nightreign, which has shown promise in early public network test sessions.

IGN's 10/10 review praised Elden Ring as "a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path." The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC also received a perfect score, with IGN stating, "Like the base game did before it, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree raises the bar for single-player DLC expansions. It takes everything that made the base game such a landmark RPG, condenses it into a relatively compact 20-25 hour campaign, and provides fantastic new challenges for heavily invested fans to chew on."

FromSoftware has not yet disclosed a specific release date for Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2, nor have they detailed what sets this version apart from previous releases.
