'Forspoken' Unimpresses, Even on Free PS Plus

Author:Kristen Update:Feb 01,2025

Forspoken, a year post-release, continues to spark heated discussions among players, even with its recent inclusion in the PS Plus free-to-play library.

The game's free availability via PS Plus Extra and Premium in December 2024 prompted a mixed response. While many expressed anticipation, particularly alongside Sonic Frontiers, others abandoned the game after a short time, criticizing the dialogue and storyline. Those who persevered often cited enjoyable combat, parkour, and exploration as redeeming qualities. However, a common thread emerges: engaging with the narrative and dialogue often proves a significant deterrent.

PS Plus's impact on Forspoken's reception seems limited due to the game's inherent inconsistencies. The core gameplay loop centers on Frey, a New Yorker transported to the breathtaking yet perilous land of Atia. Armed with newfound magical abilities, Frey must navigate this vast landscape, battling formidable creatures and powerful matriarchs known as the Tants, all while seeking a way back home.
