Harry Potter: Magic Awakened EOS Announced, Guess The Spells Didn’t Work After All!

NetEase's collectible card game, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened, is shutting down in select regions. The end-of-service (EOS) date for the Americas, Europe, and Oceania is October 29th, 2024. Players in Asia and certain MENA regions can continue playing.

Initially released in China in September 2021, the game saw a strong launch but faced delays before its global release in June 2022. While its Clash Royale-inspired gameplay and wizarding world theme initially resonated with players, the game ultimately failed to maintain momentum.

The decision to shut down stems from a combination of factors. Reddit discussions highlight player frustration with changes to the reward system, which allegedly favored paying players over skilled, free-to-play players. Nerfs and slower progression for non-spending players contributed to declining player engagement.

The game has already been removed from app stores in the affected regions. Those in unaffected regions can still experience the Hogwarts atmosphere, dorm life, classes, and wizard duels.

For players seeking a new mobile gaming experience, consider checking out the upcoming SpongeBob Season in Brawl Stars.
