Author:Kristen Update:Mar 31,2025

The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has secured its writers in the talented duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, known for their work on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Announced recently, Daley and Goldstein are set to pen the screenplay for this much-anticipated film adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game. The project will be brought to life under the production of Margot Robbie's company, LuckyChap, adding an exciting layer of creativity and expertise to the venture.

Daley and Goldstein have been on a roll, having also written and directed their original film, Mayday, and contributed their writing skills to notable projects like The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming. Their involvement in the Monopoly movie signals a promising direction for the film, leveraging their proven track record in crafting engaging stories.

The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding. Discussions about a Monopoly film date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott showed interest in directing. In 2011, Scott enlisted Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski to write the script, but that version never materialized. Subsequent attempts in 2015 saw Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborate on a script by Andrew Niccol, and in 2019, it was reported that actor Kevin Hart and director Tim Story were set to be involved. However, none of these efforts came to fruition.

The current momentum behind the Monopoly movie seems to have been reignited by Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, setting the stage for a fresh start. With Daley and Goldstein at the helm of the scriptwriting, and Margot Robbie's LuckyChap producing, fans of the classic board game can look forward to a film that hopefully "passes Go" and delivers a captivating cinematic experience.
