Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Order Delay in Canada Due to Tariffs

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 23,2025

Gamers worldwide let out a collective groan last week when the eagerly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 preorder date shifted from April 9 to an uncertain "who knows when?" This delay was triggered by import tariffs introduced by President Trump, which caused turmoil in financial markets. The ripple effect has now crossed into Canada, with Nintendo confirming that pre-orders there are also postponed. So, if you were planning to secure your console through a relative in Winnipeg, it's time to rethink that strategy.

"Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in Canada will not start on April 9, 2025, in order to align with the timing of pre-orders to be determined in the U.S.," stated Nintendo of Canada to the Canadian tech site MobileSyrup.

"Nintendo will provide updated information at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged."

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start on April 9, 2025, as Nintendo assesses the potential impact of tariffs and changing market conditions. Nintendo will provide an update on timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025, remains unchanged.

With tomorrow marking the original pre-order launch date, there's still no clear timeline on when gamers can finally start their frantic browser refreshing and credit card number checks, leaving gamers in a state of limbo and worried about a potential price hike from the initially announced price of $449.99.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the world, Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders have gone live in the UK today. Smaller retailers such as EE, GAME, and Smyths saw their stock vanish quickly, with scalpers taking advantage by listing pre-orders on eBay for £500 ($639) or more, significantly above the official retail price of £395.99 ($506).
