Nvidia Issues RTX 5090 and 5080 Stock Shortage Warning to PC Gamers Ahead of Hotly Anticipated Release Date

The Nvidia RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 are set to launch on January 30th, but reports from retailers and manufacturers suggest significant shortages are likely. Consumers are already lining up outside stores, anticipating high demand for these highly sought-after GPUs, despite their hefty price tags of $1,999 and $999 respectively.

Manufacturer MSI, citing the Lunar New Year (Chinese New Year), attributes the initial low supply to production constraints. They expect stock to improve throughout February.

Retailers like Overclockers UK report receiving only a handful of RTX 5090 units, and limited quantities of the RTX 5080. PowerGPU echoed these concerns, predicting extremely low availability for the RTX 5090 launch.

In response to these concerns, Nvidia representative Tim@Nvidia issued a statement acknowledging the anticipated high demand and potential stock-outs. They assured consumers that Nvidia and its partners are actively working to increase retail shipments.

Despite Nvidia's statement, scalpers are already capitalizing on the expected shortages. eBay listings show pre-sale offers for the RTX 5090 at prices exceeding $5,750—a significant markup of over 187% on the MSRP.

Adding to Nvidia's challenges this week, the company's share price dropped significantly following the announcement of the Chinese AI model DeepSeek, raising concerns about the potential impact on Nvidia's datacenter GPU sales.
