Overwatch 2 Rein, Winston Buffs Planned

Overwatch 2 is poised to receive significant buffs for two classic tank heroes: Reinhardt and Winston. Lead gameplay designer Alec Dawson recently hinted at these upcoming changes in an interview with content creator Spilo. While specifics remain under wraps, the improvements are intended to address longstanding balance issues and bolster their performance in the game's current one-tank meta.

Dawson confirmed plans to increase the damage of Reinhardt's Charge to 300, potentially enabling one-shot kills against most non-tank heroes. Winston is also slated for enhancements, focusing on his Tesla Cannon alt-fire and Primal Rage ultimate. While the exact nature of the ultimate adjustments remains unclear, a reduction in the alt-fire's charge time is a strong possibility.

These buffs aim to revitalize Reinhardt and Winston, two original Overwatch heroes who have faced challenges in keeping pace with newer additions to the roster. Their performance in Overwatch 2's one-tank format has been inconsistent, and these changes aim to rectify that.

The timing of these updates remains uncertain, but given the recent commencement of Season 11, players can anticipate their arrival within the next few weeks, likely as part of a mid-season patch. A July release is plausible, though no firm date has been set.

The interview also touched on other balance adjustments. Mauga, the newest tank, is under review, with developers examining his Cardiac Overdrive ability to encourage more aggressive play. Furthermore, Dawson offered a tantalizing glimpse of the upcoming Space Ranger support hero, hinting at a unique, highly mobile kit with a mechanic shared by only one other character. More details are expected in the coming weeks.
