PlayStation PC Game Drops PSN Restriction

Lost Soul Aside's PC Release to Forgo Controversial PSN Account Linking

New evidence suggests Lost Soul Aside, a Sony-published action RPG slated for a 2025 PC release, will not require PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking. This significant change expands the game's potential market considerably, as PSN support is unavailable in over 100 countries.

Lost Soul Aside, a product of PlayStation's China Hero Project, is a highly anticipated hack-and-slash title inspired by Devil May Cry. Developed by UltiZeroGames over nearly nine years, the game will launch on both PS5 and PC, with Sony handling publishing duties. However, Sony's previous mandate of mandatory PSN account linking for PC releases drew significant criticism.

The removal of this requirement for Lost Soul Aside was initially noticed on the game's Steam page. While the page briefly mentioned PSN linking after the December 2024 gameplay trailer, this requirement was swiftly removed.

A Shift in Sony's PC Strategy?

This marks only the second time Sony has reversed its PSN linking policy for a PC release, the first being Helldivers 2. This suggests a potential softening of their stance on the issue. The decision likely reflects a desire to maximize Lost Soul Aside's reach and sales, especially considering the underwhelming PC performance of other PlayStation titles following the introduction of the PSN linking requirement. For example, God of War Ragnarok saw significantly fewer Steam players than its predecessor. While the exact reasons behind this decision remain unclear, it offers a glimmer of hope for broader accessibility of future PlayStation PC titles.
