After the recent acquisition of Pokémon Go developer Niantic by Scopely, the company behind Monopoly Go, fans have expressed significant concerns. Worries about increased ads, data privacy, and potential changes to the beloved game have been circulating widely. However, a new interview with Michael Steranka, a product director at Pokémon Go, featured on Polygon, aims to alleviate these fears.
In the interview, Steranka speaks highly of Scopely and emphasizes that both companies share similar visions. He assures fans that intrusive ads are highly unlikely to be introduced into Pokémon Go under Scopely's ownership. For players concerned about privacy, Steranka firmly states that Niantic will not share or sell player data to third parties. He concludes by reassuring the community that the transition to working under Scopely will have minimal impact on Niantic's operations.
If it ain't broke...While some corporate influence is expected, I personally believe Scopely will not heavily interfere with Pokémon Go's successful operations. The game has been, and continues to be, a major success, and Niantic's new spin-off team focusing on AR development is likely to be the bigger business move.
Steranka also highlighted that the Pokémon Company remains deeply involved in the decision-making process for Pokémon Go. This means that any actions or changes not aligned with the Pokémon Company's standards would be off the table, both now and in the future.
