Street Fighter Tournament “Sleep Fighter” Announced in JapanPlayers Must Accumulate Sleep Points a Week Before the Tournament

Insufficient sleep results in penalties at a new Street Fighter tournament, "Sleep Fighter." Announced this week, this official Capcom-sponsored event is organized by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote its sleep aid, Drewell.

The Sleep Fighter tournament is a team-based event; each three-player team competes in "best-of-three" matches to accumulate points. Top-scoring teams advance. Besides victory points, teams earn "Sleep Points" based on logged sleep hours.

The week before the Sleep Fighter tournament, each team member must sleep at least six hours nightly. Teams failing to reach 126 hours of sleep lose five points per deficient hour. The team with the most total sleep time chooses the tournament's match conditions.

SS Pharmaceuticals promotes this event to highlight the importance of sleep for peak performance. Their campaign, "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First," promotes healthy sleep habits in Japan. Sleep Fighter is the first esports tournament to penalize insufficient sleep, according to the official website.
