"Silksong Fans Hopeful for Nintendo Direct Reveal"

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 04,2025

While some gaming communities, such as the fans of Tomodachi Life, are reveling in the excitement following today's Nintendo Direct, others are feeling the sting of disappointment. Specifically, the Hollow Knight: Silksong community is once again donning their metaphorical clown makeup after the long-awaited sequel failed to make an appearance at the showcase.

Fortunately, there's another opportunity on the horizon.

Of course, now we wait for April 2nd

The Silksong community has been a whirlwind of anticipation and letdowns for quite some time. A quick visit to their subreddit or Discord server reveals a constant stream of memes and "silkposts" filled with fantasies, predictions, and humor about a game that seems perpetually out of reach. We've previously covered their reactions to back-to-back Nintendo Directs last year, and the frenzy over a chocolate cake photo in January that sparked an unfounded ARG hunt. From an outsider's perspective, it's challenging to discern whether the community's reactions stem from genuine disappointment or if they're simply enjoying the camaraderie and humor in their shared anticipation.

Nintendo Direct? That’s not until April 2nd

However, the upcoming showcase carries a bit more weight. Hollow Knight initially launched on PC, but its popularity soared with its release on the Nintendo Switch the following year, leading many to closely associate the game with Nintendo's platform. The next showcase is particularly significant as it's expected to unveil details about the Nintendo Switch 2, including both hardware and potential launch titles. This grand stage could be the perfect setting for Silksong to make its long-awaited reappearance. While the event will undoubtedly feature numerous first-party titles, Hollow Knight fans are clinging to the hope that Silksong's popularity and anticipation will secure it a spot at this major showcase—and that the game is finally ready for release.

Is the Silksong community poised for yet another disappointment, perhaps the 50th since the game's announcement? It's hard to say, but it's certainly possible. However, there are some signs that a release date announcement might be on the horizon. A recent Xbox Wire post on indie games made a fleeting mention of Silksong, though it could have been a playful tease. More notably, recent backend updates to the game's Steam listing, including a copyright year change, have sparked speculation. Yet, the community has been through numerous cycles of overhyped anticipation due to random listings and delistings on various console storefronts, so caution remains the watchword.

The only concrete assurance we have comes from Team Cherry's marketing and publishing chief, Matthew 'Leth' Griffin, who stated in January after the cake incident, "Yes the game is real, progressing, and will release." All we can do now is wait and dream of the day we finally experience the world of Silksong.

So, get your clown makeup ready for next week, everyone!
