Author:Kristen Update:Feb 01,2025

Experience the nostalgia of classic couch co-op gaming with Minecraft! This guide details how to enjoy split-screen Minecraft on your Xbox One or other compatible consoles. Gather your friends, prepare the snacks, and let's get started!

Important Considerations:

  • Console Only: Split-screen functionality is exclusive to consoles (Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch). PC players are unfortunately excluded.
  • System Requirements: Ensure your TV or monitor supports at least 720p HD resolution, and that your console is compatible. HDMI connection is recommended for automatic resolution adjustment; VGA may require manual configuration within your console settings.

Local Split-Screen Gameplay (Up to 4 Players):

  1. Connect your console: Use an HDMI cable to connect your console to your display.
  2. Launch Minecraft: Start Minecraft and either create a new world or load an existing one. Crucially, disable multiplayer in the game settings.
  3. Configure your world: Choose your difficulty, game mode, and world settings. Skip this step if loading a pre-existing world.
  4. Activate additional players: Once the game loads, press the appropriate button to add players. This is typically the "Options" button (PS) or the "Start" button (Xbox), often requiring a double-press.
  5. Log in and join: Each player logs into their respective account and joins the game. The screen will automatically split into sections (2-4 players).
  6. Enjoy! Start playing!

Online Multiplayer with Local Split-Screen:

While you can't directly split-screen with online players, you can combine local split-screen with online multiplayer. Follow the same steps as above, but this time enable multiplayer in the game settings. Send invitations to your remote friends to join your local split-screen game.

Minecraft's split-screen feature enhances the cooperative experience. Gather your friends for an unforgettable gaming session!
