Unveiled gifts and Sony's updated policy for PSN on PC

Sony's policy requiring PSN tethering for even single-player PC games has angered many gamers, particularly due to regional service limitations impacting the availability of modern releases. However, Sony recently announced some policy adjustments. While the company hasn't completely abandoned PSN tethering for PC, they've introduced some relaxations.

The following games will not require mandatory PSN tethering:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2
  • God of War Ragnarök
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered

Players who still choose to tether to PSN will receive these incentives:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man 2: Early access to the "2099" costume line for Peter Parker and Miles Morales.
  • God of War Ragnarök: Access to the Black Bear armor set, the "Lost Things" chest at the game's start, and a resource set.
  • The Last of Us Part II Remastered: Bonus points to unlock features.
  • Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered: The Nora Valiant costume.

In November, COO Hiroki Totoki acknowledged investor concerns regarding PSN connection requirements. While he stressed the importance of PSN for security and order, particularly in service-based games, he didn't clarify how this rationale applies to single-player titles like Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarök. The times, it seems, are changing.
