Your adventure begins in the heart of town, across from the Gun Store and Hospital and in front of the Trading Hut. Start by ditching any unnecessary loot and gearing up. In my opinion, a Rifle is your best bet here. Priced at just $75, it packs enough punch to fend off most foes, at least temporarily. Don't forget to stock up on coal to fuel your boat—it's got an old-school engine, after all.
The next town is 10,000m away. All you need to do is get the boat running and you're on your way. You can stop to take out and loot Zombies and Drowned, but it's not always worth it—the houses on the sides don't offer much of value. To restart the ship, just add more coal and get it going again. Ignore the worm on the right side; it's harmless. Wait until the second safe zone to sell your loot, but watch out for Big Foot and Zombie mobs along the riverbanks.
After reaching the second safe zone/town, you'll see burning buildings teeming with mobs. It's best to clear them out with friends; otherwise, it's a time-waster due to scattered spawn points. At around 12,000m, you'll find a castle-like house packed with Drowned but also stocked with Shotgun ammo and other valuable loot. Use these resources wisely.
By now, you're familiar with the routine—kill, loot, repeat, and hope your enemies fall. That's the essence of the gameplay loop. To master it, focus on efficiency. Use your boat as your primary inventory; empty your bag when you return to save time and space.
A helpful strategy I discovered while writing this guide is stacking Zombies near the incinerator. While it's tempting to rush out of those backwater towns, efficient loot stacking can make a big difference. Running low on fuel? Just toss a few Zombies in, and you're set.
Another useful tip is to be cautious around Sheriff's offices. These spots often have a higher concentration of mobs but also offer substantial rewards in terms of weapons and ammo. I was able to keep my shotgun loaded for a long time by having a friend clear the ground floor while we explored each town.
Make sure to conserve your ammo, weapons, fuel, and medkits for the fortress at around 25,000m. It's still under construction, making it a hotspot for ambushes. I wouldn't recommend tackling this alone; a group of at least three, ideally five, is best. Be efficient in collecting the loot.
Similarly, avoid engaging Big Feet after 30,000m. They're incredibly tough, require a lot of ammo to take down, and hit hard. Don't linger too long and plan your stops wisely. Remember, loot isn't everything.
The town after 50,000m is one of my top farming spots. With at least two dozen Drowned and Zombies, it's perfect for a group with Shotguns or Sawnoffs. It's also an efficient way to gather corpses for fuel, so coordinate with your team to prepare the bodies for loading quickly.
Before facing the Kraken, sell all your loot in the final safe zone and stock up on ammo, weapons, and medkits. Don't go easy on the Zombies and Drowned; ensure you have a stash of at least 8-10 corpses for fuel during this crucial phase. As you near 100,000m, you'll hit open waters and be ready to confront the beast. The telltale sign of its approach is the skies darkening.
The camera will zoom out, and the Kraken will emerge from the water. Everyone must choose a tentacle to attack. The boss has substantial health, and each tentacle can deal damage if not repelled effectively. If you have five players, form a pentagram-like shape and focus on individual tentacles.
Be mindful of the water splash attack, which causes AoE damage and is signaled by the Kraken winding back and creating a water trail with its tentacle. Use medkits liberally, as some damage is unavoidable.
Lastly, watch out for the Roar AoE, which inflicts minor damage but is unblockable and seems to slightly boost the boss's damage. You'll recognize it by the white concentric circles emanating from the tentacle that used the ability.
As you can see, it's not as daunting as it seems. That wraps up my Dead Sails Kraken Guide. To speed through the boss fight even faster, grab one of our Dead Sails codes and see how far and fast you can go. Good luck and smooth sailing!
