World of Warcraft Delays Plunderstorm Launch

Summary

  • World of Warcraft's Plunderstorm event has been delayed due to unforeseen technical issues.
  • A new launch time has not yet been announced.
  • Players can enjoy other in-game activities while waiting for Plunderstorm's return.

World of Warcraft has unexpectedly delayed the launch of its second Plunderstorm event due to unforeseen technical problems. While the goal is still to launch Plunderstorm before the end of January 14th, players will need to exercise a bit more patience.

Plunderstorm, a popular pirate-themed battle royale mode introduced during the Dragonflight expansion in 2024, was scheduled to return on January 14th, 2025, offering both returning and brand-new rewards.

Unfortunately, unforeseen issues arose during the rollout. The initially planned six-hour maintenance period was extended to eight hours, with servers scheduled to return at 3 PM PST. However, a community manager, Kaivax, announced further delays due to these unexpected problems. While Blizzard hopes to launch Plunderstorm before the end of January 14th, no new estimated launch time is currently available.

When Will Plunderstorm Go Live in World of Warcraft?

  • Before the end of January 14th, pending resolution of unforeseen issues.

Fortunately, World of Warcraft's regular servers are back online. Players anticipating Plunderstorm can still participate in Siren Isle weeklies, begin the second week of the Turbulent Timeways event, or engage in other activities within the War Within.

This second iteration of Plunderstorm introduces new features, including the Plunderstore and an in-game event interface accessible while logged in. These new features may be contributing to the current delays.

Despite the game mode delay, World of Warcraft's Plunderstorm Twitch Drops are still active. Viewers can earn the Coward’s Azure Target back transmog by watching four hours of any World of Warcraft Twitch streamer before February 4th at 10 AM PST. This reward can be earned regardless of whether the streamer is playing Plunderstorm, providing a way to earn a reward while waiting for the game mode's return.
