Ys Memoire: Conquering Dularn in Felghana

Quick Links

Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana presents players with numerous boss battles, but the very first—Dularn, the Creeping Shadow—can be a significant hurdle. This initial encounter often represents a substantial difficulty spike, proving a challenging introduction for many players. While initially daunting, mastering Dularn's attack patterns makes this fight surprisingly manageable.

How to Beat Dularn in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana

The fight begins with Dularn encased in a spherical barrier, rendering him invulnerable. Your focus shifts to surviving his attacks until the barrier dissipates, creating an opportunity to unleash a flurry of damage. Dularn's health pool varies depending on the chosen difficulty setting. While you can retreat to regroup if needed, remember Dularn is not optional and must eventually be defeated.

Avoid contact with Dularn while his barrier is active; touching him inflicts damage. Attempting to attack during this phase is futile and will likely lead to your defeat.

Dularn's Sword Attacks

Dularn summons swords in various attack patterns:

  • Overhead Assault: Swords appear above him before raining down on the player.
  • X-Formation: Swords form an X-shape before homing in on your position.
  • Straight Line Thrust: A line of swords lunges directly at you.

These homing attacks can be frustrating, but a simple strategy works well. While the barrier is up, circle Dularn widely to evade the first two sword attacks. However, depending on sword positioning, jumping is a crucial secondary defense. For the straight line attack, a well-timed jump is essential to avoid damage.

Once the barrier drops, exploit Dularn's vulnerability. Each barrage of damage triggers his teleportation. Upon reappearing, maintain distance to avoid immediate barrier reformation and subsequent damage.

Dularn's Wave Blasts

Dularn employs two projectile attacks:

Fireballs

Dodge these fireballs by moving strategically between them or jumping over incoming projectiles. Combining movement and jumping ensures maximum evasion.

Arching Slash

This large blue slash leaves no gaps; jumping is the only effective counter. These wave attacks often precede Dularn's vulnerability, signaling your opportunity to inflict damage.

Understanding attack patterns is key; grinding for levels isn't necessary to overcome this boss.
