Larian Studios announced on a Steam post that a stress test for Patch 8 will begin in January. PC players can access the test via Steam, while console players will be able to participate on Xbox and PlayStation. Mac and GOG users will not have access to this test build. Registration for the stress test is currently open.

Larian plans to thoroughly test Patch 8 for bugs and gameplay issues before its official release. They're particularly interested in player feedback on cross-play functionality, stating that implementing cross-play in a game as large as Baldur's Gate 3 has been challenging and requires extensive testing. Players are encouraged to register and invite friends to participate in cross-play campaigns, or to find groups via the Larian Studios Discord Server.

Although Patch 8 will be the final major update for Baldur's Gate 3, Larian intends to continue supporting the game and its modding community. Significant updates are planned, focusing on expanding modding tools and capabilities to enable players to create and share their own stories. Since the release of the official mod tools in September, players have downloaded over 70 million modules and uploaded over 3,000 mods.
