Renewed speculation surrounds a potential Bloodborne remake or sequel following its inclusion in PlayStation's 30th-anniversary video. This article explores the latest news and the recent PS5 update.
The anniversary trailer featured the acclaimed PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne, with the caption "It's about persistence." While other titles were also showcased, the inclusion of Bloodborne ignited fervent fan speculation regarding a potential remaster, sequel, or remake.
Set to a unique rendition of The Cranberries' "Dreams," the trailer highlighted PlayStation's iconic games, including Ghost of Tsushima, God of War, and Helldivers 2. Each game featured a thematic caption (e.g., "It's about fantasy" for Final Fantasy 7). However, Bloodborne's placement and caption fueled fan excitement.
Despite the lack of concrete evidence, fans continue to speculate about a Bloodborne 2 or a 60fps remaster with enhanced visuals. This isn't the first instance of such speculation; a previous Instagram post by PlayStation Italia featuring Bloodborne locations also triggered a similar response.
The trailer's ending might simply acknowledge Bloodborne's notorious difficulty, highlighting the persistence required to conquer the game, rather than hinting at upcoming updates.
Sony released a PS5 update to commemorate its 30th anniversary, introducing a limited-time PS1 boot-up sequence and customizable themes inspired by past consoles. The update includes themes spanning from PS1 to PS4, offering a nostalgic experience for PlayStation fans.
This update allows PS5 users to personalize their home screen's design and sound effects based on previous consoles. After installing the update, users can access the "PlayStation 30th Anniversary" settings to adjust the appearance and sound.
While the update has been well-received, particularly the return of the PS4 UI, its limited-time availability has caused disappointment. Some speculate that this might be a test for future, more comprehensive UI customization options on the PS5.
Speculation extends beyond the PS5 update. Digital Foundry recently corroborated Bloomberg's report on Sony's development of a handheld console for PS5 games. While still in early stages, Sony aims to compete in the portable gaming market currently dominated by Nintendo Switch.
Digital Foundry's John Linneman confirmed hearing about the project months prior. The panel discussed the logical move for Microsoft and Sony to enter the handheld market, given the prevalence of mobile gaming.
While Microsoft has openly discussed its interest, Sony remains tight-lipped. Despite the corroboration, the release of both Sony's and Microsoft's handhelds could be years away, requiring development of affordable, high-quality devices to rival Nintendo. Meanwhile, Nintendo's president announced plans to reveal more information about the Nintendo Switch's successor within the current fiscal year.
