Elden Ring: Nightreign will remove an iconic feature of the last game. Why won't players be able to leave messages?

Elden Ring: Nightreign will omit the in-game messaging feature previously seen in other FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision, stating that the approximately forty-minute gameplay sessions are too short to allow players sufficient time to write or read messages. The statement reads: "With sessions lasting roughly forty minutes, there isn't enough time to send your own messages or read other people's messages, therefore we disabled the messaging feature."

This choice marks a departure from FromSoftware's tradition of incorporating message-based player interaction, a feature often praised for enhancing the gaming experience. However, the development team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.

Nightreign is a standalone adventure, separate from the Elden Ring storyline, to preserve the integrity of the original game. While offering new challenges and encounters, it aims to retain the signature atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
