Forza Horizon 4 Farewell: December 15 Shutdown Announced

Forza Horizon 4 is saying goodbye: Digital sales end December 15, 2024.

After a successful run since 2018, the popular open-world racing game, Forza Horizon 4, will be removed from major digital stores on December 15, 2024. This means no new purchases of the game or its additional content will be possible after that date. The game, set in a fictionalized UK, amassed over 24 million players (as of November 2020) and was a critical and commercial hit for Xbox.

While Playground Games previously stated they weren't planning to delist the game, expiring licenses for cars and music necessitate its removal from the Microsoft Store, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass. DLC sales cease even sooner, on June 25, 2024. Only the Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate editions will be available for purchase between now and the December delisting.

Forza Horizon 4's final series, Series 77, runs from July 25 to August 22. Post-August 22nd, the playlist screen will be unavailable, but the Forza Events screen will remain, offering daily and weekly challenges and Forzathon Live events.

Current owners (digital or physical copies) can continue playing. Xbox Game Pass subscribers with active, paid subscriptions who own DLC will receive a game token to ensure continued access.

This delisting, while regrettable, is a common occurrence in the racing game genre due to expiring licensing agreements. Similar fates befell earlier Forza Horizon titles. Players interested in securing a copy can currently benefit from an 80% Steam discount, with an Xbox Store sale planned for August 14.
