Honey Production Optimization in Stardew Valley

Author:Kristen Update:Jan 24,2025

This guide delves into the surprisingly lucrative world of honey production in Stardew Valley. While often overlooked, honey is a readily cultivatable artisan product with significant profit potential. This guide covers everything from building bee houses to maximizing honey yields and utilizing your honey harvest. Updated January 9, 2025, to reflect version 1.6 updates and refinements.

Bee House Construction

Honey production begins with the Bee House. This crafting recipe unlocks at Farming Level 3, requiring:

  • 40 Wood
  • 8 Coal
  • 1 Iron Bar
  • 1 Maple Syrup

Alternatively, a Bee House can be obtained by completing the Fall Crops Bundle in the Community Center or as a potential prize from the Mayor's Prize Counter.

Place your Bee House outdoors – farm, forest, quarry – anywhere outside the greenhouse. Bee Houses produce honey every 3-4 days in all seasons except winter. On Ginger Island, production is year-round. Moving a Bee House (using an axe or pickaxe) will drop any ready honey.

Flowers and Honey Types

Bee House and Flowers

Without nearby flowers (within five tiles), Bee Houses yield Wild Honey (100g, 140g with Artisan profession). Planting flowers nearby upgrades honey type and value. This includes flowers in Garden Pots.

The Artisan profession (Farming Level 10) boosts artisan good values by 40%. Honey prices (base and Artisan):

Honey Type Base Sell Price Artisan Sell Price
Tulip Honey 160g 224g
Blue Jazz Honey 200g 280g
Sunflower Honey 260g 364g
Summer Spangle Honey 280g 392g
Poppy Honey 380g 532g
Fairy Rose Honey 680g 952g

Honey Types Chart

Harvesting flowers before collecting honey reverts the honey to Wild Honey. Conversely, you can wait for desired flowers to bloom near your Bee House. Wild Seeds (e.g., Sweet Peas, Daffodils) yield only Wild Honey.

Honey Uses

High-value honey is best sold directly. Wild Honey and cheaper varieties serve other purposes:

  • Mead: Place honey in a Keg to create Mead. Mead's value increases with aging in a Cask.

    • Normal: 200g (280g)
    • Silver: 250g (350g)
    • Gold: 300g (420g)
    • Iridium: 400g (560g)

Honey type doesn't affect Mead's value; Wild Honey maximizes profit.

  • Crafting: Combine honey, Hardwood, and Fiber to craft a Warp Totem: Farm (Farming Level 8).

  • Community Center: Honey completes the Pantry's Artisan Bundle. It also features in several Fish Pond quests.

  • Gifting: Most villagers appreciate honey as a Liked gift (except Maru and Sebastian). Wild Honey is ideal for friendship building. Mead is also a good gifting option (avoid Penny, Sebastian, and children).
