Legend of Zelda Spinoff Game to Feature Playable Link

The ESRB rating for Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom reveals a surprising twist: Princess Zelda's debut solo title will also feature Link as a playable character.

Zelda and Link: A Dual Protagonist Adventure

The ESRB listing confirms both Zelda and Link are playable protagonists. The game, rated E 10+, is free of microtransactions. The description highlights Zelda's quest to seal rifts across Hyrule and rescue Link. Gameplay mechanics differ between characters: Link utilizes sword and arrows, while Zelda employs a magic wand to summon creatures for combat (including wind-up knights, pig soldiers, and slime). Enemies are defeated through various means, such as fire or dissolving into mist.

This marks a significant departure for the Zelda series, making Echoes of Wisdom the first game to feature Princess Zelda as the primary protagonist. Unsurprisingly, it's become a highly anticipated title following its summer showcase announcement.

The extent of Link's playable sections remains undisclosed. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launches September 26, 2024.

Hyrule Edition Switch Lite: Pre-Orders Open!

To coincide with the game's release, Nintendo offers a special Zelda-themed Hyrule Edition Switch Lite, available for pre-order. This golden-colored console, featuring the Hyrule crest and Triforce symbol, doesn't include the game but bundles a 12-month Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription for $49.99.
