Tencent, the Chinese tech giant, has significantly increased its investment in Kuro Games, the developer behind the popular titles Wuthering Waves and Punishing: Gray Raven. This move grants Tencent majority ownership.

Tencent's Expanded Investment in Kuro Games

Wuthering Waves’ Kuro Games Taken Over by Tencent as Majority Shareholder

Tencent's share in Kuro Games has jumped to approximately 51.4%, solidifying its position as the majority shareholder. This follows a previous investment in 2023 and the departure of other shareholders. Tencent is now the sole external investor in Kuro Games.

Maintaining Independence

Despite the significant investment, Kuro Games assures continued operational independence. This mirrors Tencent's approach with other successful studios like Riot Games (League of Legends, Valorant) and Supercell (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars). Kuro Games' official statement highlights that this shift will foster a "more stable external environment" and support its long-term independent strategy. Tencent has yet to release an official statement.

Kuro Games' Success

Kuro Games has achieved notable success with both Punishing: Gray Raven and Wuthering Waves, each generating over $120 million USD in revenue. Both games continue to receive regular updates, and Wuthering Waves has even earned a Players' Voice nomination at The Game Awards.
