Transformers: Reactivate Canceled by Splash Damage

Splash Damage Cancels Transformers: Reactivate

After a prolonged and challenging development, Splash Damage has officially canceled its Transformers: Reactivate project. Announced at The Game Awards 2022, the 1-4 player online game was anticipated to feature a collaborative effort between Autobots and Decepticons against a new alien threat. While initial leaks suggested a Generation 1 roster including Ironhide, Hot Rod, Starscream, and Soundwave, along with potential Beast Wars characters, the game will not see release.

The cancellation, announced via Splash Damage's Twitter, was described as a difficult decision. Unfortunately, potential staff redundancies are expected as the studio refocuses its efforts. The developer expressed gratitude to the development team and Hasbro for their support.

Fan reaction has been mixed, with some expressing disappointment while others anticipated the cancellation given the lack of updates since the 2022 trailer.

Splash Damage's future lies with "Project Astrid," a AAA open-world survival game utilizing Unreal Engine 5, a project announced in March 2023 in collaboration with streamers Shroud and Sacriel. The studio will now dedicate its resources to this new title. However, the cancellation of Transformers: Reactivate unfortunately results in job losses for some staff members. The Transformers fanbase continues to await a new AAA title featuring the iconic robots.

Summary

  • Transformers: Reactivate Canceled: Development ceased after significant challenges.
  • Potential Layoffs: Staff reductions are anticipated due to the project's cancellation.
  • Focus Shift to Project Astrid: Splash Damage is now concentrating on its open-world survival game built with Unreal Engine 5.
