Veilguard Fans Rejoice Over No DRMNo Preload for PC Gamers

"Veilguard won't have Denuvo on PC. We trust you," Dragon Age: The Veilguard project director Michael Gamble
tweeted today (X). DRM (digital rights management) like Denuvo is anti-piracy software popular with game publishers like EA, but not with players, especially PC gamers, as it can affect game performance. BioWare's decision has been welcomed by players. "I support this. I'll buy your game at launch. Thanks," one user replied to Michael Gamble.

Veilguard also confirms that online play won't be mandatory, as Gamble stated in a reply to another user. However, the no-DRM decision comes with a trade-off: BioWare has confirmed that the "absence of DRM means there will be no preload for PC gamers." This may disappoint some players, as Veilguard requires at least 100GB of storage space. However, console players can still preload Veilguard. Xbox players with early access can install it now, while PlayStation players with early access will have to wait until October 29.

Alongside the confirmation of Veilguard not using Denuvo, BioWare released the system requirements today. "Players with high-end rigs will be able to take advantage of our suite of Ray Tracing features and uncapped frame rates. For the minimum PC specs, we focused on making the game as accessible to as many people as possible," BioWare said. "For consoles (Playstation 5 & Xbox Series X|S), there will be fidelity and performance modes, targeting 30 and 60 FPS respectively." To have all the Ray Tracings effects enabled on PC, your rig requires either Intel Core i9 9900K or AMD Ryzen 7 3700X with 16GB of RAM, as well as Nvidia RTX 3080 or AMD Radeon 6800XT graphics cards.
