Zomboid Players Rejoice! Expert Tips for Fortifying Windows

Author:Kristen Update:Jan 24,2025

Securing your shelter in the zombie-infested world of Project Zomboid requires more than just finding a suitable location; it demands robust defenses. This guide focuses on a fundamental yet effective method: barricading windows.

How to Barricade Windows in Project Zomboid

To effectively board up your windows, you'll need specific materials: one wooden plank, a hammer, and four nails. Once gathered, right-click the target window. Your character will automatically begin securing the plank. Each window supports up to four planks for enhanced protection.

Resource Locations: Hammers and nails are typically found in toolboxes, garages, sheds, closets, and similar locations. Wooden planks are commonly found on construction sites, or can be salvaged by dismantling wooden furniture (shelves, chairs, etc.). Administrators can utilize the "/additem" command to spawn items.

Barricaded windows significantly impede zombie access. The more planks applied, the greater the resistance. To remove planks, right-click the boards and select "Remove." Note that you'll need a claw hammer or crowbar for this action.

Larger furniture items (bookshelves, refrigerators) are ineffective as barricades; characters and zombies will pass through them. However, knowing how to move furniture remains a useful skill for interior arrangement.

While wooden planks offer basic protection, more advanced barricades using metal bars or sheets are achievable with sufficient Metalworking skill.
