SANDBOX: A Deep Dive into Endless Defense Base Building and Unit Survival
This Early Access title offers a casual yet realistic sandbox experience blending base building, unit management, and survival elements. Players build and fortify their zone, rescuing civilians to bolster their population or evacuating them for safety. Improve the lives of your people, and utilize diverse units, land and air vehicles (WIP), buildings, and weapons to combat enemies and the infected. Overcome randomized events (WIP) ranging from minor incidents to catastrophic disasters, all within the intuitive mobile gameplay.
Core Gameplay Features (v0.1):
- Endless defense outpost/base building survival RTS sandbox gameplay.
- Functional unit and building logic.
- Escalating zombie horde difficulty (increasing speed with each kill).
- Civilian/worker/builder management.
- Resource collection logic and requirements.
- Unit, building, and resource saving.
- Upgradable main sentry gun.
- Basic research tree.
- Tactical unit command system.
Planned Features (v0.2 - v0.6):
Future updates will introduce vehicles, interactive events (bus, helicopter, and plane crashes, resource drops), improved sentry gun features, and extensive player feedback-driven bug fixes. Later versions will add civilian and VIP rescue operations, expeditions, in-depth research trees, unit customization, explosives, population mood systems, expanded sandbox options (grid size, starting resources, units), enemy variations, improved enemy pathing, and a unit cover system. Further down the roadmap are visual enhancements, FPS optimization, a weather system, day/night cycle, quarantine facilities, and an infection system. The development team also plans to incorporate unit and theme customization options.
Known Issues:
The developers acknowledge several known issues, including layered walls after loading saved games, excessively fast zombies after numerous kills and evacuations, low FPS on the main menu (under investigation), large install size due to uncompressed animation frames, disappearing rescued survivors (workaround provided), and issues with unit counts and worker behavior. These are actively being addressed.
