LEGO Launches In-House Gaming Projects

LEGO CEO Niels Christiansen has unveiled ambitious plans to significantly expand the company's digital footprint, specifically by venturing into the world of video game development. This involves both independent game creation and strategic partnerships.

“We are confident that, as long as we operate under the LEGO brand, we aim to create experiences for children of all ages across both digital and physical platforms. Developing games internally is something we are actively pursuing,” Christiansen stated.

This strategic shift doesn't signal an end to LEGO's established practice of licensing its brand to external developers. Recent reports, for example, indicate that TT Games, renowned for its LEGO-themed titles, is currently developing a new game, likely based on a Warner Bros. franchise.

LEGO's most prominent foray into gaming to date is its ongoing collaboration with Epic Games. Last year's hugely successful LEGO-themed mode in Fortnite cemented the partnership's impact and popularity.

The company also boasts a long-standing relationship with TT Games, spanning two decades of successful LEGO-themed adventure games. While new projects from TT Games have been relatively quiet recently, speculation points towards a new LEGO Harry Potter game, potentially inspired by the phenomenal success of LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.

Furthermore, LEGO's collaboration with 2K Games on LEGO 2K Drive, a racing game released last year, underscores the brand's adaptability and growing presence within the diverse gaming landscape.
