After participating in Elden Ring: Nightreign's network test, Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won found the experience refreshing and inspiring. At the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Choi shared his thoughts with Eurogamer on the evolution of the Souls genre. His admiration for FromSoftware's work is clearly reflected in the design of Lies of P.

Choi commented on Elden Ring: Nightreign, saying, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. It's evident that FromSoftware is always pushing the boundaries of their imagination and vision, and that inspired me to enhance the Overture experience to the best of my ability."

Despite his appreciation for FromSoftware games, Choi emphasized that his inspiration is drawn from a wide range of games. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he explained, "I'm a fan of many different types of games, and I draw inspiration from a variety of experiences. These diverse influences help me shape the unique Lies of P experience. It's a blend of inspirations from many games I love, which I then transform into something special for the fans of Lies of P."

Choi revealed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players around 15-20 hours to complete. This expansion is packed with numerous bosses and additional content that the developers had initially planned for the game's launch. Choi elaborated, "Overture isn't just a standalone expansion; it's deeply connected to the base game. Developing this was like completing the Lies of P experience, which posed its own challenges."

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to Krat during its final days of haunting, following a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts from the game's initial development. Choi likened this release to a Director's Cut, suggesting it feels like the final piece of the Lies of P puzzle.

He further explained, "When we launched the base game, we had to prioritize quality, which meant we couldn't include everything at once. The support from the community after the base game's release motivated us to deliver everything we wanted in this expansion."

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

During an interview with IGN at the 2025 GDC, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not connect directly to the final cutscene of the base game. While the end of the original game provided hints about potential future directions for the Lies of P universe, Overture stands on its own.

Choi confirmed in a November 2023 Director’s Letter video that a sequel to Lies of P is in the works, though details about Lies of P 2 remain scarce. He assured fans, "When we share news or assets with you, it will be because we are ready to present it to you. Our focus on quality remains paramount despite any pressures we've faced in the past."
