"Oblivion Remastered Mods Released Online"

Author:Kristen Update:Apr 26,2025

Bethesda has confirmed that The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered does not feature official mod support, yet this hasn't deterred the game's passionate fanbase from creating unofficial mods. Mere hours after Bethesda and Virtuos shadow-dropped the remastered version for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, a selection of community mods surfaced on the popular platform, Nexus Mods. These initial mods, primarily small customization options, underscore the dedication of The Elder Scrolls modding community.

At the time of this article's publication, an impressive 22 mods were already available on the site. The first mod to be released offers PC players the ability to personalize their desktop by replacing the default Oblivion Remastered shortcut with one of two images featuring the game's infamous Adoring Fan. Other mods allow players to bypass the introduction screens featuring the Bethesda and Virtuos logos, while some mods, such as one that modifies the Wizard’s Fury spell and another that eliminates the compass, provide early gameplay customization options.

This wave of early mods comes despite Bethesda's usual encouragement of mod support in their games. The company announced that Oblivion Remastered would not include official mod support, a detail confirmed in the FAQ section on their website.

In a testament to the modding potential of Oblivion Remastered, Nexus Mods user GodschildGaming released their Iron Longsword damage mod. In the mod's description, they stated, "This is just to prove modding is possible. Bethesda says no mod support, I say false. It really is Unreal slapped on top of Oblivion, the data folder is nested in a lot more folders but same concept."

The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was released today, marking 19 years since the original game's launch. As more players dive into the game in the coming weeks and months, the number of mods is expected to grow, offering increasingly unique ways to customize the gaming experience. While awaiting further mod releases, you can explore discussions on why some players consider today's release more of a remake than a remaster, and delve into Bethesda's decision to label it as "Remastered."
